Tsukino Usagi is a 14-year-old clutzy, whiny, crybaby. Her main interests include sleeping and eating. All she ever wanted was to be a normal teenager. But one day, all of that changed. She suddenly went from being a carefree eighth grader to a defender of love and justice. If she had known that the little black cat with the crescent moon would change her life forever, would she have still saved it, or would she have kept walking?

In the beginning, Usagi didn't want to be a Sailor senshi. She didn't take her responsibilities very seriously and complained all the time. But as she continued to fight, a new side of her emerged. She proved that she could do anything if she just put her mind to it. When it was revealed that she was Princess Serenity, she didn't want to do it, but her friends stood by her and together they defeated Beryl. She may not be as strong as Haruka or Makoto, but her she definitely has the biggest heart of all the senshi.

Usagi is incredibly loyal and caring. She would do anything for her friends. She would sacrifice everything just to save them. She gave up to Fiore rather than let the other senshi die, and jumped off a building to save Sailor Chibimoon. She begged Sailor Jupiter not to fight when she was weak from giving blood, and refused to let the Outers kill Hotaru (Mistress 9). She loves her friends more than anything.

Even though Usagi fights evil, she is still innocent and naive. She trusts everyone. She can actually be quite clueless most of the time. She immediately trusts the Starlights, and and she believes to the end that Luna and Artemis are "just friends." But her naivete doesn't mean she can't fight. She is really quite powerful, and when she sets her mind on a task, she will accomplish it.

The many lives of Tsukino Usagi: a princess, a teenager, a warrior, a queen. A thousand years ago she was Princess Serenity of the Moon. When the Moon Kingdom was destroyed by Beryl, her mother sent her into the future to live on Earth. There she leads a double life- teenage girl and defender of love and justice. She eventually marries Chiba Mamoru and they rule 30th century Crystal Tokyo as Neo-Queen Serenity and King Endymion.

How is it that this regular teenage girl became a warrior of justice and saved the universe time and time again? Whatever the reason, Tsukino Usagi, Sailor Moon, will always hold a special place in the hearts of her fans. She is quite the unusual hero, but then, who doesn't love the underdog?

Usagi and Mamoru have been through a lot together. No matter how many times Mamoru has gotten brainwashed, Usagi always sticks by him. Even though their relationship has been rocky at times, they are destined to be together. Let's take a look.

Their first meeting was especially memorable. After scoring only 30% on a test, Usagi was very upset and threw the paper away. Ironically, it hit Mamoru in the head. I have to go with the dubbed version for Mamoru's next words: "Are you stupid or just incredibly lazy?" What a way to start a relationship. :) From then on, Usagi wasn't too fond of Mamoru. He teased her mercilessly, and she in turn drove him crazy. Mamoru once remarked to Motoki that there was something about Usagi that made him want to tease her. Hmmm, I wonder what that could be...

In episode 34, Usagi and Mamoru discovered each other's true identities: Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Kamen, respectively. Sailor Moon became Princess Serenity, and Tuxedo Kamen was taken away by Beryl and brainwashed. In a later episode, Sailor Moon healed the evil Mamoru, only to have him taken away and brainwashed again (big surprise).

In Sailor Moon R, after Beryl was defeated and Mamoru was back to his regular self (minus the memories), Usagi went to great lengths trying to get him to remember. She even drew pictures of their life together on the moon. Poor Mamoru didn't have a clue. I mean, what would you do if some girl came up to you and said you were destined to be together? :O) Very strange.

Thankfully, before he had to endure any more of Usagi's weirdness, Mamoru's memories returned and things were back to normal. Well, kind of. After meeting the little pink-haired girl known as ChibiUsa, Mamoru began to have a recurring dream, telling him to stay away from Usagi or else something terrible will happen to her. Torn between his love for Usagi and his desire to protect her, Mamoru chose to protect. He convinced Usagi that he didn't love her anymore and kept his distance. Usagi was devastated. She begged Mamoru to forgive her for whatever she'd done, but to no avail.

Soon Usagi began to have the same dream. Finally she understood that Mamoru was just trying to protect her. They decided to get back together no matter what happened. Soon they were taken to the future to save ChibiUsa, where they found out that she was really their future daughter, and they were the future king and queen of Crystal Tokyo. How's that for destiny?

One of my favorite Usagi/Mamoru episodes is in Sailor Moon S. It was Usagi's birthday, yet no one seemed to remember. An unsuspecting Mamo-chan got a slap across the face when he failed to recall why that day was so special. When the senshi finally enlightened him, he ran right out and bought what Usagi wanted: a pair of glass slippers. But, surprise surprise, the shoes held an egg of Daimon, just waiting to steal Usagi's pure heart. Her heart was stolen, along with her transformation brooch. To make a long story short, Tuxedo Kamen sacrificed himself to save Usagi. He was encased in ice by Kaolinite and her Daimon, but Usagi and the inner senshi saved him. Their relationship is basically like that. Fighting together, saving each other time and time again.

In the final season of Sailor Moon, Mamoru decided to go to America to study for a year. Before he left, he asked Usagi to marry him when he came back. She accepted, and he left. En route to the US, his plane is hijacked by Galaxia and he is killed. Usagi didn't know and kept on fighting as though he were coming back. Somehow, Mamoru returns in the last episode, and receives their last kiss of the series. What a great ending to a great romance. Theirs is an eternal love.

Friends are very important to Tsukino Usagi. She would do anything for them, even sacrifice herself. She loves them more than anything in the world. Let's have a look at her relationships with each of the senshi, her best friends.

Mizuno Ami was the first senshi to be befriended by Usagi. At first Usagi thought Ami was a snob, but then she got to know her and the two became fast friends. In one episode, Usagi heard Ami's teacher say she needed to study more, so Usagi, thinking she was helping, told Ami that she didn't need to tutor them anymore. Although Usagi's plans usually backfire, her intentions are good. She and Ami are basically as different as night and day, but they are very close.

Hino Rei. What is the real story behind the friendship? The controversial subject of Rei and Usagi is discussed almost everywhere you go in the Sailor Moon community. Does Rei hate Usagi? Why is she always so mean to her? The list goes on. We could be here forever just discussing the possibilities. My opinion? Rei loves Usagi; she just doesn't know how to show it. Rei hardly ever adds the "-chan" on the end of Usagi's name, giving the appearance of rudeness, but every now and then she lets her guard down and shows her true feelings. When Usagi wanted to give up being a senshi and the princess, Rei literally slapped some sense into her. She admitted that Usagi was a good leader and even shed some tears. Rei and Usagi would risk their lives for each other.

Kino Makoto and Usagi have a great friendship: Makoto cooks and Usagi eats. Just kidding. But seriously, the two girls are very close. When Jupiter was weak from giving blood, Sailor Moon begged her not to fight. She didn't want her to get hurt, even if it meant fighting without Jupiter's power. Usagi always wants the best for her friends.

Aino Minako is very much like Usagi. They are like two peas in a pod. Both are blonde, own cats, and are kind of crazy. Perhaps that is what draws them together, or maybe it's because they always seem to go after the same guys. :O) But whatever it is, they are very good friends.

Tenoh Haruka and dear Usagi had a hard time becoming friends. Sailor Uranus had only one mission: find the talismans, even if it meant sacrifice. Sailor Moon believed that the inner and outer senshi could work together and find the talismans without killing innocent people. Haruka had a hard time respecting Usagi because they had different goals. Haruka couldn't understand why Usagi would rather save a friend instead of saving the world, but Haruka's respect for Usagi grew when Sailor Moon managed to save the world and her friends at the same time. Time to time Haruka showed a soft spot for Usagi.

Kaioh Michiru sees Usagi as a charming little girl. Sailor Neptune was on the same side as Uranus, but she saw the potential in Sailor Moon. Usagi really looks up to Michiru, and dreams of being a "beautiful princess" just like Michiru.

Meioh Setsuna. As Sailor Pluto, she helped Sailor Moon and the other senshi travel into the future to save ChibiUsa. Both Setsuna and Usagi have a special bond with ChibiUsa, and they would do anything to help her, drawing the two of them together. Setsuna brought the talismans together and showed that Sailor Moon was the true Messiah of Light.

Tomoe Hotaru is best friends with ChibiUsa, but she thinks of Usagi as a friend too. Even when Hotaru was possessed by the evil Mistress 9, Usagi believed that Hotaru was still alive and could be saved, when the outer senshi were trying to destroy her. Sailor Moon gave up the Sacred Cup in hopes to save Hotaru, but it was taken by Pharaoh 90. Hotaru became Sailor Saturn and told Sailor Moon that she would stop the Silence. Sailor Moon went in after Hotaru and saved her, despite the warnings from the other senshi.

ChibiUsa and Usagi have an interesting relationship: mother to daughter and friend to friend. ChibiUsa constantly got on Usagi's nerves in the beginning, but eventually Usagi grew to love her future daughter. Sailor Moon protected ChibiUsa many times, and when ChibiUsa returned as Sailor Chibimoon, they worked together as partners in fighting evil.

Usagi loves her friends. She is very loyal and wouldn't betray them for anything. In the R movie, she gave up to Fiore rather than let them die. There have been countless times when the senshi have asked her to let them go and continue fighting but she wouldn't. She would risk everything for them. That is true friendship.

This is the first brooch Serena/Usagi receives. It is given as a gift from Luna.

In the American version, Serena shouts "Moon Prism Power!" to activate the transformation sequence of the brooch.

In the original Japanese, Anime Usagi shouts "Moon Prism Power Make-Up!"

There is nothing inside this brooch. This brooch will break in episode 51 of 200. Sailor Moon will lose her transformation and go back to her human self. Then Queen Serenity will appear with the Silver Crystal.

The Silver Crystal then merges to form Sailor Moon's new transformation brooch. Queen Serenity also warns her daughter that the Silver Crystal is no longer at its full strength (since much of its energy was depleated battling Queen Beryl), but one day Sailor Moon might be able to use its full energy again if she wishes to save the people she loves.

This is the transformation brooch for the 2nd season of Sailor Moon - generally called Sailor R. This brooch appears in episode 51 of 200.

In the American version, Serena shouts "Moon Crystal Power!" and transforms.

In the Japanese version, Usagi shouts "Moon Crystal Power, Make-Up!" and transforms.

In the Japanese version, Sailor Moon shouts "Moon Crystal Power, Refresh" to heal and purify the Four Phantom Sisters.

This is the transformation brooch from Season 3. It is revealed at the same time as the Moon Heart Scepter to Sailor Moon and Prince Darien.

Usagi shouts "Moon Cosmic Power, Make-Up!" With this, she transforms into Super Sailor Moon.

This brooch also gave Sailor Moon a double transformation when the Holy Grail was discovered. With the words "Moon Crises, Make-Up!" Super Sailor Moon was able to transform into Super Super Sailor Moon for a brief period of time. Then her energy would be exhausted and she would transform back into Super Sailor Moon.

In the Fourth Season - Super Sailor Moon would no longer have the Holy Grail because it was destroyed by Pharoh Nine and Mistress Nine, during the ending battle of Sailor S Series. Therefore she would have to resort to the help of Pegasus to transform into Super Super Sailor Moon. A transformation that will also only last temporarily before she returns to her Super Sailor Moon state.

Super Moon Crises Power (US) is used in the Super S Sailor Moon movie for the equivalent of Moon Cosmic Dreamaction (Jap). This is a combo attack with both Sailor Mini Moon and Super Sailor Moon.

Also in the 4th season, Sailor Moon's Moon Heart Scepter would be the Moon Sword for the period of time that Pegasus shares his power with Super Super Sailor Moon.

This is the last and final transformation sequence. At the beginning of the 5th season, Sailor Moon would battle Queen Nehelenia again. In Sailor Saturn's dream Sailor Moon was able to transform into her final stage - Eternal Sailor Moon.

At the beginning, this could only be achieved when all the Sailor Scouts combined their energies into Sailor Moon. But in Sailor Moon's final attempt to save Mamoru from Queen Nehenelia, Usagi's tears transformed her brooch into the brooch you see above, without anyone's help. After that miracle, all Usagi has to do is shout "Moon Eternal, Make-Up!" to reach her last and final ultimate transformation - ETERNAL SAILOR MOON!

(First Season)

This is Sailor Moon's Crescent Moon Wand. Princess Serena (known as the Moon Princess & Princess Serenity) uses the Crescent Moon Wand to heal humans who have been transformed into Negaverse monsters.

The Crescent Moon Wand was used by Queen Serenity to seal away Queen Beryl in the past. This wand can only be handled by a descendent of the Moon Kingdom.

Of course, it is again with this wand that Moon Princess will use to defeat Queen Beryl. But after immediately after her victory, the Moon Princess will lose this wand when she is reincarnated back into Serena/Usagi.

Comic Moon Power! - Sailor Moon releases the power of the crescent moon wand to defend herself against her enemies, including Queen Beryl. (US)

Moon Healing Activation - Sailor Moon uses her new Crescent Moon Wand (crystal-less) to transform monsters back into their human form. (US)

Moon Healing Escalation - Japanese Anime version of Moon Healing Activation and Moon Crystal Healing Activation (Japan).

Moon Crystal Healing Power - Sailor Moon uses her new Crescent Moon Wand with the Imperium Silver Crystal to heal humans transformed into monsters (US)

The Imperium Silver Cystal in the American verison is called the Millennium Silver Crystal in original Japanese version (ADV Version).

Queen Serenity combines the power of the Silver Crystal along with the Crescent Moon Wand to seal away Queen Beryl. It took the full power of the Silver Crystal to seal away the evil and thus caused the early death of Queen Serenity. However, the Silver Crystal grants one wish in return. It was Queen Serenity's wish that her daughter, the Moon Princess (who was killed by Queen Beryl), and all others in her royal court (also killed by Queen Beryl, except for Luna and Artemis) be reborn to a happier and safer time on Earth.

Of course, as we all know that happiness did not last. Queen Beryl and her evil forces somehow broke the seal of the Silver Crystal and escaped into present day Japan.

Queen Beryl used her warriors to track down the fragments (7 rainbow crystals) of the Silver Crystal.

It was during the battle between Zoycite and Tuxedo Mask that caused Sailor Moon to shed a tear that merged the seven rainbow crystals together to reveal the Silver Cystal. It is also at this moment, that Sailor Moon is revealed as the Moon Princess and the rightful heir to the Crescent Moon Wand and the Silver Crystal.

The Luna Pen : This was given to Sailor Moon by Luna during the first series of Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon uses this to disguise herself in the tv show. Serena uses it only in the first few episodes. However, in a much later episode, Sailor Venus will use the Luna Pen to disguise herself as Sailor Moon.

Transmitter - It is disguised as a calculator. The Scouts can talk with each other using this Transmitter.

The Star Locket : A gift given to Prince Darien by the Moon Princess back in the days when they were on the Moon. Not soon after, Queen Beryl attacked and destroyed the Moon Kingdom.

On Earth, Darien had somehow kept the gift, but he dropped it when Queen Beryl captured him from the Scouts and brainwashed him to do evil.

Eventually Sailor Moon will use the power of the Star Locket to heal and free Prince Darien from Queen Beryl's evil spell. This Star Locket will be absorbed by the evil Prince Darien to make him good again.

Moon Tiara Action - Japanese version of Moon Tiara Magic.

The Moon Tiara will continue to defeat monsters up until episode 50 of 200. Why? Supposedly it's because the monsters got stronger and the fact that Sailor Moon lacked the will to continue fighting. Sailor Moon subconsciously still yearns to return to an ordinary life of being a school girl. Thus the combination of those two events will lead to Sailor Moon's inability to use her tiara effectively to defeat her enemies. Of course, Queen Serenity will come to the rescue and she will give her daughter the Moon Scepter.
